Interview with Isaac Bashevis Singer

Interview in Yiddish with Yiddsh writer and Nobel Prize Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer (1902-1991), Interviewed by Yiddish folklorist and singer Ruth Rubin, 1960s. Rubin asks Singer about his childhood in Poland, where he was born, his family, what songs he heard as a child. Singer's rich native Yiddish and his original Yiddish pronunciation originating from the Warsaw region can be heard.

Singer was born in the town of Leoncin, which is situated 25 miles from Warsaw. When asked to sing some melodies, Singer quips: "Though my name is Singer, I am not much of a singer." His father was a rabbi in Leonicin, not far from Novy Dror. His grandfather on his mother's side was the rabbi in Bilgoraj.
