Syllabus of a course in Yiddish language and literature
Description:
Syllabus of a course in Yiddish language and literature, grade I and II, given at the ORT Vocational School, Vilna.  The program covers general trends in  Jewish culture, 16th through the middle of 19th century, as well as contemporary Jewish culture.  Special attention is given to topics reflecting Jewish aspirations in the area of education, agriculture, and vocational training.  The course in Jewish literature covers Bible translations,  Elijah Levita's Bove-buch, Gluckel of Hameln, the Vilna Gaon, Nahman Bratslaver, Levi-Yitskhok, Hasidim vs. mitnagdim, the Haskalah, Moses Mendelssohn,  Mendele Moykher Sforim, Sholem Aleichem, Abraham Reisin, Isaac Leib Peretz, Shalom Asch, and Joseph Opatoshu. Knowledge of  the Yiddish language, written and spoken, is emphasized.
