Title:
Advertisements for the Moriah School and the Wiedza Gymnasium
Description:
Advertisements printed back to back for the Moriah School and the Wiedza Gymnasium, Vilna. In Leyb Shapiro's Moriah School, children receive instruction in Hebrew and a religious education, including "blessings, praying, Five Books of Moses, Prophets and Writings, Hebrew, Yiddish, and Jewish history," as well as Polish and other secular languages to prepare them for entry exams for the Wiedza Gymnasium, under the direction of Dr. Likhtman. In the "humanistic," coeducational Wiedza Gymnasium, instruction is in Polish and students study both a Jewish, religious curriculum and a secular one. Diplomas from the Wiedza Gymnasium are valued the same as from government secondary schools and their bearers are eligible for places at universities and other institutions of higher learning.
